What exactly is a Brazilian Bikini Wax?

A Brazilian Bikini Wax is essentially a more extreme version of a bikini wax. Instead of simply removing the hair that would be seen while wearing a swimsuit, the hair is removed from the pubic area, including the labia, through to the back side area. Some people feel uncomfortable having their backside area waxed, so you will be asked before waxing of that area. Whether it is a bare look, a more natural look or something in between, you should do whatever makes you the most comfortable.

Will I be embarrassed?

Keep in mind you are with a professional and they are not checking you out! We aren’t juding you and you aren’t the hairiest person we’ve seen. The whole experience is more clinical and less personal than you may think. A trained, licensed aesthetician, wearing gloves, will quickly and professionally remove unwanted hair.

Will the Brazilian Bikini Wax Hurt?

The million dollar question! Everyone has different hair, skin and pain thresholds. You should expect to experience some discomfort, to many women that momentary discomfort is so worth it! Hello soft, smooth skin! You’ll be able to say goodbye to razor burn, ingrown hairs and of course, that lovely post shave itching. However, previous shaving history, menstrual cycle, medication and fatigue, can also influence your sensitivity level. Even more importantly, the quality of wax used and the experience and skill of your aesthetician will play a large part. The classic beauty rule “no pain, no gain” has officially moved down south, to the nether regions of your body — compliments of the Brazilian Bikini Wax!

Why should I have a Brazilian Bikini Wax?

It allows women to comfortably wear revealing swimwear and lingerie and it has an air of excitement about it. It removes pubic hair for a different look aesthetically as well as a bacteria and smell source. You will clean and smooth for 3 to 4 weeks — no more shaving hassle!

How long does a Brazilian Bikini Wax take?

The waxing itself doesn’t take very long. In fact, getting unchanged and relaxing for a minute or two can sometimes take as long as the wax. Generally, a Brazilian Bikini wax will take between 20 and 30 minutes for regular customers and slightly longer for first timers.

Can I get a Brazilian Bikini Wax if I am pregnant?

Yes, however, please get your doctor’s permission first. Just like waxing when you are in menstruation, being pregnant will leave you more sensitive during and after your wax. It is more convenient for us to do it for you, than for you to do it yourself.

What should I wear?

Disposable underwear will be provided to you for all bikini waxes, with the exception of the Brazilian bikini wax. For the Brazilian, everything from the waist down is removed and you will be covered with a towel.

What can I expect of a Brazilian Bikini Wax?

Hygiene is a must. If you have a morning appointment, we recommend showering beforehand. Please arrive clean for your appointment. If possible, wash your bikini area shortly before your appointment otherwise there are personal wipes available in the change room if required. Women should avoid waxing during the three days prior to and the first three days of their period, the skin is much more sensitive at this time. If you are menstruating, you can still receive a Brazilian Bikini Wax, but please wear a tampon. The ideal length of hair to wax is approximately ¼ inch. If you have shaved the bikini area, it is necessary to wait between two and three weeks before coming to get waxed, otherwise it will be too short and we won’t be able to wax you. If your hair is much longer, the aesthetician will trim it for you if required. You can expect a little irritation. If you get waxed regularly, your skin will become accustomed and you should not have the irritation. We recommend avoiding waxing if you have sunburn, rash, wound or open skin as well as the use of lotions or oils on the day of your waxing appointment. Self-tanning creams will be removed during the waxing process, making the skin look patchy.

A true Brazilian Bikini Wax removes the hair from the pubic line, over the labia and through to the back area. Some people feel uncomfortable with having the backside area waxed, so we will ask you before waxing there. To begin the hair is snipped with scissor if necessary, then we dust the area with powder, and wax is applied a little bit at a time. The wax used for this procedure is hard wax without strips, meaning that it’s applied to the hair to be removed, it “shrink-wraps” around the hairs, and is pulled off after it dries. Relaxing is important as it causes less pain and helps to remove the hair root easier.

After your wax, the results can last three to six weeks — depending on your personal hair growth rate. Warmer weather tends to encourage faster hair growth rates. In most cases, you will see minimal re-growth during the first two weeks, with a noticeable increase thereafter. Some areas may grow quicker than others. Continued waxing encourages slower, sparser hair re-growth. The more frequently you wax, the less painful it becomes.

Tips for after waxing care

  • Avoid sun exposure, deodorant, hot showers, chlorinated pools, solariums, spas and saunas for 48 hours
  • Use an exfoliating glove after two days to minimize ingrown hairs
  • Avoid tight garments after waxing
  • Apply anti-histamine cream if necessary
  • Moisturize daily

Understanding Waxing

Waxing is a form of epilation — this means that the hair is removed below the surface of the skin. The advantage of epilation over depilation — hair removed at the skin line, like shaving etc. — is that it will take longer for the hair to grow back. Also, if epilation is performed repeatedly on the same area, over a prolonged period of time, the quantity of hair will be permanently reduced. Waxing is the most effective method of removing unwanted hair in both large and small areas. Hair can be removed with a minimum amount of discomfort using hard wax. Kamloops Esthetics uses this type of wax because it goes on thick, smooth and warm. It can then pull the hair straight from the root without “strips” — making it much easier on the skin and resulting in less pain. Any area with hair can be safely waxed.
